Our
Curriculum
The Learning Gardens uses a
curriculum based on the preschool standards developed by the Madison
Metropolitan School District and Middleton Cross Plains District as the
typical growth and development skills of young children. These standards are
consistent with the NAEYC and the city of Madison standards for childcare
programs.
- Sensory / Motor
Children use motor skills to learn about their physical abilities
and explore action-related play and learning through their senses.
- Language Arts / Literacy
Children develop an understanding of the concepts of
written symbols, stories, reading, and writing. They use language
to communicate needs and wants, share ideas, express feelings,
and ask and answer questions.
- Math / Science
Children acquire cognitive thinking skills, including
making comparisons, drawing conclusions, matching, sorting,
classifying, cause and effect, and number skills.
- Creative Representation / Expression
Children explore and integrate an understanding of the
world through expression of rhythm/music, visual arts, drama,
and movement/dance.
- Social / Emotional Skills
Children learn social and emotional skills through play with
peers and adults by engaging in a variety of play activities,
problem solving activities, and opportunities for expression
of feelings.
- Daily Living Skills
Children develop the skills necessary for independence in
their daily living activities.
