PAC/Family
Involvement
Ellen Diaz
It
has been great to see new faces -- Thank you again to the parents
who have made time for our monthly P.A.C. (Parental Advisory
Committee) meetings! Your input on the program and events is
always useful, plus we get a chance to chat and compare school
/ parenting notes, and enjoy Julie's cooking for lunch too!
Beginning
in April, we have moved our monthly meeting time from the first
Monday of the month to the FIRST FRIDAY, at 12:00 noon, still
in the Eating Gardens / café area. So, the May date will
be Friday, May 8th (yes it's the 2nd Friday - Sorry, Ellen is
out the 1st) Then in June we will meet on Friday June 5th. The
July holiday falls on a Friday, so we will meet on Friday, July
10th. Mark your calendars now - or to make ie=t easier, just
simply check the Yahoo! group calendar for dates and to receive
e-mail reminders of these and other center events.
The
Yahoo! group was originally set up to increase communication
between the center and families, and functions like a listserve.
Members can only join through invitation. If you are not in
the group yet:
1. Please go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/learninggardens
2. You will need to have or create a free yahoo ID
3. After you have an ID and logged into the site, click on "Join
this Group"
4. Fill out the form on the page requesting to join (this group
is only available to families enrolled at the Learning Gardens)
Note:
when setting up your ID, please use one that lets us identify
the family/staff member, or use the optional tag that lets you
point out whose ID it is. This will help us greatly in our group
maintenance!
You
will then receive an email confirmation that your request to
join the group has been approved, with information about the
group, how to post a message, or contact the moderator. Once
in the group, you will be able to view a calendar with monthly
center and community events; you will receive weekly menus,
events reminders, and center announcements online, and be able
to post questions or comments to the moderator or group. We
will also be having Ph.D. neuroscientist (also a Mom :) Marni
Bekkedal as a visitor in our group soon, to respond to parent
questions and concerns on child behavior and brain development.
Any
questions on the Yahoo! Learning Gardens parent group, please
see Ellen or email to ellen@learninggardens.com Thank You!
